Bishop Emilio joins other new bishops in Rome
Bishop Emilio is in Rome for the Vatican's annual Formation Course for New Bishops, where newly appointed bishops from around the world gather for a time of formation, fraternity, prayer and reflection on their episcopal mission. It is expected that 147 newly appointed bishops from five continents will participate. The course will culminate in an audience with Pope Leo XIV.
Following the Vatican formation course, Bishop Emilio travels to Assisi to gather in fraternity with other Franciscan Capuchin bishops from around the world, before returning to the Diocese of Venice and beginning a tour of Diocesan schools and celebrating school Masses.
Bishop Emilio said he will be “praying for the intentions of Bishop Emeritus Frank J. Dewane, the priests, deacons, religious and the faithful, especially the prayers of the parishes and schools of the Diocese of Venice and those who work at the Catholic Center in Venice.” Please join us in praying for Bishop Emilio on his journey, as he prays for us.
Mass of Remembrance at Ascension
Bishop Emilio will celebrate a Catholic Mass of Remembrance on Monday, September 28 at 9:00 a.m. on the grounds of The Church of the Ascension, 6025 Estero Blvd, Fort Myers Beach. The date marks the fourth anniversary of Hurricane Ian's devastating impact on Southwest Florida, and Fort Myers Beach, including the destruction of the Church of the Ascension. Celebrated by Bishop Emilio, the Mass of Remembrance will be concelebrated by priests from the surrounding area, including Msgr. Stephen McNamara, Church of the Resurrection, Fr. Lorenzo Gonzalez, St. Columbkille Parish, Fr. Jarek Sniosek, St. Leo the Great Parish and Fr. Bill Adams, former Pastor of Ascension Parish. All are welcome!
Mass on Feast of Our Lady of La Leche
Registration is still open for Mass on Sunday, October 11, the Feast of Our Lady of La Leche, to be celebrated by Bishop Emilio at the Rustic Altar at the Shrine National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche in St. Augustine. The Mass will be followed by lunch. Come celebrate this beautiful day of faith and pilgrimage with Bishop Emilio and Catholics from throughout the Diocese of Venice. The Year of St. Francis
Bishop Frank J. Dewane designated St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Grove City to serve as a pilgrimage destination for the Diocese of Venice in the extraordinary Jubilee Year of St. Francis, honoring St. Francis of Assisi on the 800th anniversary of his death. All are encouraged to make a pilgrimage to the Parish during this Jubilee Year for a unique experience of encounter, prayer and renewal. The Church and its Poor Clare Adoration Chapel are open to welcome pilgrims every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and at other times by arrangement.
Background
By decree of the Apostolic Penitentiary issued on January 10, 2026, at the request of Pope Leo XIV, the Church has solemnly proclaimed a special Year of St. Francis of Assisi, running from January 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027. This Jubilee Year commemorates the 800th anniversary of the passage into Heaven of Saint Francis of Assisi (1226), one of the most beloved saints in Christian history. The Papal Decree emphasizes the enduring relevance of St. Francis in today’s world. His radical Gospel life – marked by poverty, humility, peace, and love for creation – continues to speak powerfully to a humanity wounded by division, violence, and indifference. The Holy Father invites all the Faithful to rediscover Francis not merely as a gentle lover of nature, but as a man conformed to Christ Crucified, whose life was a living proclamation of the Gospel, and a model of Christ’s peace.

The annual Diocese of Venice Eucharistic Rosary Congress will be held October 3-9, 2026. This year's theme is My spirit rejoices in God my Savior. At Parishes throughout the Diocese, the Eucharistic Rosary Congress will usually begin with the celebration of daily Mass and end with Mass at the same time the next day; in the 24 hours between the two Masses, there is perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, with the five decades of the Rosary being prayed every hour. Many parishes will also have the Sacrament of Penance available. This abundance of prayer will undoubtedly draw from the Lord many graces upon our families, the Diocese, the Universal Church, the nation, and the world. Check your local parish for details!

Students who register and attend a minimum of six classes at one of the participating parishes or online using our APP will qualify to receive a Diocesan Certification. Monthly Days of Prayer - September 9 or September 13 - The Monthly Day of Prayer is an opportunity to take time out of your busy and hectic life to focus on God. Join us Wednesday Sept 9 or Sunday, Sept 13 for "Heroic Service in the Church: The Life and Legacy of Venerable Bruno Lanteri" Fr. Leland will share about the heroic holiness and service of Venerable Bruno Lanteri, founder of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary. Fr. Lanteri lived through times of great upheaval and was instrumental in rebuilding the Church in his day and raising up a wave of holiness among God’s people. His teaching and witness continue to be a blessing to the Church today, especially through the ministry of his spiritual sons, the Oblates of the Virgin Mary. The day begins at 9:30am with Continental breakfast and includes two conferences by our OLPH priest, the opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, lunch, and Mass. Time for adoration, private prayer, or meditation on our beautiful grounds as well. The day concludes at 3:15pm. The cost is $45. Register here.
Men's Spiritual Weekend Retreat for Recovering Alcoholics - October 16-18 - A Matt Talbot retreat is for people of all faiths and is an opportunity for recovering alcoholics to enhance their spirituality and sober way of life. The retreat is private and everything is confidential. Register here.
Ignatian Preached Retreat - October 23-26 - This 3 Night silent retreat will introduce you to the great themes of the Spiritual Exercises in a group setting. The schedule includes conferences each day, daily Mass, and an opportunity to meet at least once with the retreat director for Confession and/or spiritual direction. Conference topics center on Ignatian spirituality, prayer, and discernment. The cost is $525.00 per retreatant for a private room and $360.00 per retreatant for a shared room (retreatant to locate appropriate roommate where silence can be maintained). Request a Mass - The practice of requesting a Mass to be offered for the needs of a specific person, for a special intention, or in thanksgiving is a wonderful part of Catholic tradition. To have a Mass celebrated for a special occasion, on behalf of a family member/friend, or a deceased loved one the donation amount is $10.00 per Mass. Weekly Meditative Rosary for Human Dignity - Start your weekend in prayer with our Lord, our Lady, and our community. A weekly meditative rosary for human dignity will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 11, at St. Francis Xavier Church chapel, 2057 Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers. Ten Rosary decades will be prayed for particular needs, including for: the Sidewalk Advocates at abortion facilities; the Souls in Purgatory; unity throughout the human family; and for the personal intentions of those who are present. Ave Maria Parish 25th Annual Commemoration of 9/11 - Join us on Friday, September 11, at 5:00 PM at Ave Maria Parish, 5088 Ave Maria Blvd., as we honor those who served our nation following the events of September 11, 2001, including those who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, and recognize the dedication of our police officers, EMS personnel, firefighters, active-duty military members, and veterans who continue to protect our communities. The evening will begin with Mass at 5:00 PM, followed by the Rosary and a commemorative program.
Prayer service for remembrance of aborted children - Incarnation Parish, 2901 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, will hold a prayerful commemoration for the 66 million children who have been aborted in the US since 1973, marking the 13th annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children. Deacon Kevin McKenney will lead the prayer service immediately following the regular 8:30 a.m. Mass on Sept. 12, 2026. The commemoration is also intended to remind society of the humanity of the unborn child.
She Shall Be Called Woman Weekly Series in Naples - Beginning on Tuesday, September 15, the first of a series titled, "Masterpiece of Creation," will be held at St. John the Evangelist, 625 111th Avenue North, Naples, in the Nazareth Room.
